Matthew5:13-16
You are the salt if the earth. But if the salt loses it saltiness, how can it be made salty again? it is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the Light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone inthe house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they my see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

The Light Of The World

Light is meant to be seen.
Our belief in Christ should be visible in the way we live our lives. The way we treat the canteen cleaner, the way we play a game, the way we do our work, the daily language we use... When we are able to do that, we will glorify and
will draw all man to Him.

A light is a guide.
So then a follower of Christ must be a good example for others to follow. There are many people who do not have, the moral strength and the courage to stand by themselves. But if someone gives them a lead, they will follow and do, the right thing.

A light can be a warning light.
It is sometimes not easy to warn others, when we know they are doing the wrong things. They may scorn us or we may lose the friendship. BUT, imagine if your good friend or your siblings said to you one day, "I would never have been in this situation, if you had spoken and warned me about it!" Would you feel bad about this? Just because you were afraid to lose the friendship or be scorned by them, you let them do what they are doing, which is WRONG!

The Salt Of The Earth

In the ancient world, sat was highly valued. In the time of Jesus, salt was connected in people's mind with three special qualities.

Purity
The Romans said that salt was the purest of all things because it came from the sun and the sea. In the world we live in, honesty ,diligence, moral standards etc, all tend to be lowered. As folloewers of Christ, we must be the person who holds standards of purity in speech ,conduct and even thoughts.

Preservities
Salt is used to keep things from going bad. We know that certain people are bad company and can lead people astray. As followers of Christ, we must be careful not to fall into bad company. In fact, we must be the good company that influences others to do right,

Flavouring
Salt adds flavour to food. Without this seasoning, food can be bland and even sickening. Christianity also adds flavour to life.
In John 10:10,
Jesus said"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full".
In a worried world, followers of Christ should be the people who remain at peace. In a depressed world, they should be the people who are full of joy. This is because they know that their Heavenly Father cares for them.

God put us here for a purpose, so we can shine and be the Light of the World, Salt of the Earth.
